NanoThings was founded in 2016 by Tim Williams, who had a crazy idea to connect print media to the digital universe. In order to do so, a physical sensor had to be embedded into each mailer. This came with four major challenges: size, cost, connectivity, and disposability. After endless hours of painstaking research, Tim realized there was no off the shelf sensor solution that could come anywhere close to meeting those four key requirements.
Determined to succeed, Tim was able to convince the brightest minds in nanotechnology, printed electronics, chemistry, and electrical engineering to sit down together and invent a sensor that could lay perfectly flat in a piece of mail, communicate further than cellular, be safely shreddable, and be cost effective enough for cost conscious advertisers.
A few months later, the NanoTag was born, the first active smart label of its kind. It wasn’t long before Tim and his Co-founders realized that they had stumbled upon a technology with endless applications.
Fast forward to today. NanoThings has evolved into a transformative solution for the cold chain and supply chain industries. We still have a dream to bring a connected solution to the print media world, but we’re having too much fun playing in freezers at the moment.
